EDITOR: The recent article, “No Consensus,” discusses a proposed project for Hwy. 200 in Hillsboro.
The North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT), the city of Hillsboro, and the Federal Highway Administration have been working together on proposed improvements of the urban section of ND Hwy. 200 in Hillsboro for two years.
The purpose of this project is to improve the urban section of Hwy. 200 in Hillsboro, which includes improving pavement condition; roadway drainage; and providing ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) compliant facilities for pedestrians.
The city council members of Hillsboro saw the importance of this project and had the foresight to work with NDDOT to apply for a grant three years ago to help fund it. The grant program, entitled ND STREET (N.D. Small Town Revitalization Endeavor for Enhancing Transportation), was created to enable cities with less than 5,000 in population to upgrade existing pavement infrastructure and enhance the appearance of sidewalks on a state highway through town.
